Course Objective:

By involving ourselves in the History and Culture of the United States of America, students will become more familiar with the founding Ideals that have guided and continue to guide our nations’ course.  Those ideals of Liberty, Equality, Democracy, Opportunity, and Rights permeate the our discussion throughout the entirety of our two semester course.  

Course Topics:

  • Quarter 1 - Exploration and settling the New World up to creating the American Colonies.
  • Quarter 2 - Birth and Growth of the Nation.
  • Quarter 3 - Progressives, Imperialism, Turn of the Century, World War I.
  • Quarter 4 - The Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, Civil Rights, Modern Society.
Attendance
Attendance in all classes for which a student is registered is an essential part of meeting the requirements to pass each course. Students will not receive credit for a registered course if they have more than 7 excused or unexcused absences within any one semester. Course absences can be made up by completing the missed course work through an independent contract provided the missed course work is completed within 2 weeks of the due date or by completing the missed course work during Saturday school.

Academic Integrity
All work must represent original work done by the student alone. Any work on an assignment that comes from someone else must include acknowledgment of that person’s contributions. Citations are a must. Cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses. At the first offense, the student will receive a zero and the office and parents will be notified. Subsequent consequences include suspension.

SEMESTER 1

Quarter 1,  Progress Report #1 on 9/28. All work due by 9/25

Quarter 1, Progress Report #2 on 11/2.  All work due by 10/23

Quarter 2, Progress Report #3 on 12/14.  All work due by 12/11

End of Semester 1 grade on 1/25. All work due by 1/19, then complete finals.


SEMESTER 2

Quarter 3, Progress Report #4 on 2/29. All work due by 2/26

Quarter 3, Progress Report #5 on 4/4. All work due by 3/24

Quarter 4, Progress Report #6 on 5/9. All work due by 5/6

End of Semester grade on 6/17. All work due by 6/10, then complete finals.


  • Textbooks: Each student will receive a textbook to keep at home. It must be returned in the same condition that it was received before final grades will be entered on the student’s transcript.
