MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Lexington County First Steps is to support families in Lexington County so that all children enter school ready to learn.  As a result f this mission statement, specific goals have been developed to meet the needs of families in Lexington County.  These goals are:

  • Ensure that every family has access to the culturally appropriate, coordinated and comprehensive parenting and family services that are necessary to assure child readiness to learn by first grade.
  • Improve the quality of childcare and early childhood education in Lexington County.
  • Develop the infrastructure necessary to ensure the future attainment and sustainability of all First Steps initiatives. More > >



Parent and Family Strengthening Services    


Parents As Teachers (PAT), the largest program in Lexington County First Steps continues to serve the most at-risk families in the five school districts; each Center is unique to its community, but with shared common vision and purpose. This is the largest PAT program in South Carolina. 

Nurse Family Partnership (NFP), a home visitation model with Richland County that can serve up to 100 first-time, low income mothers in the two-county area.

Countdown to Kindergarten (CTK), the in-home transition summer program for rising 5K students.  Lexington County has become the largest CTK provider in the State.




Childcare Services        


Childcare Quality Enhancement (QE) provides technical assistance for qualifying centers to provide individualized information and personalized skill building opportunities in order to enhance child care provider's the ability to support the growth and development of young children. 

Childcare Provider Training has become a hallmark service in the county, providing the majority of the professional training to this audience.  All training opportunities are presented by qualified instructors certified through the Center for Child Care Career Development (CCCCD). 

Childcare Resource Center a membership-based program for books on tape, curriculum theme boxes, lamination, die cuts and other materials.
