What does the Behavior Analyst help with in our preschool?

Who am I?

My name is Meghan Gunsten and I have been practicing behavior analysis as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) since November 30, 2016.  I earned my Masters of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis from Georgian Court University in December of 2015.

My area of primary focus is working with children birth through age 5 in both an in-home and public school setting.  I have experience providing direct services, providing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), creating behavior support plans for both in-home settings and classrooms, providing teacher training and coaching, providing parent training and classroom consultations, and being part of an interdisciplinary team known as the Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT).  I provide supports for general education teachers and settings by helping teachers through coaching and modeling.

What is Behavior Analysis?

Behavior analysis is a science and data driven method to work with behaviors that have been learned and maintained through consequences in the environment.  As a behavior analyst I will work with you, your child, and your child’s educational team to determine which behaviors you would like to change.  We will work together to figure out what is maintaining the target behaviors in the environment, what new behaviors we would like to teach, and how we can arrange the environment to be most successful. My role varies between working directly with your child, with you, working on the programming involved, and working with your child’s educational team.

How I work

As a behavior analyst I observe the environment, take data, and find new ways to arrange that environment to help your child and your family be most successful.  I am not here to judge or assume, but to help.  Throughout the process, beginning to end, I will ask for your goals.  I will explain the processes and assessments in plain English and will model and role play so your child's teacher and you are able to successfully implement the new behaviors.  My primary goal is to help your child be successful while in our preschool program! Any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at 609-296-7131 ext. 4123
