SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 

Horatio Alger Association Career & Technical Scholarship-

·         Be enrolled in a 2 year or less career or technical degree/certification program in the Fall, 2018 that will lead to employment

·         Demonstrate financial need; applicant must be Pell Grant eligible

·         Be a U.S. citizen

·         Apply online at www.application.horatioalger.org

·         Deadline to apply is June 15th

 

Jefferson State Singers-

·         Choir that is chosen by auditions

·         Scholarships come in the form of a full in-state tuition waiver.

·         Auditions are April 6-7 from 9:30-3:00 at the Jefferson Campus and April 20-21 from 9:30-3:00 at the Shelby Campus

LadyBUGS Scholarship-

·         Two young women with strong academic background

·         Decision will be based on financial need, ACT, GPA, community involvement, extracurricular activities, attendance record, and any college preparations that you have made.

·         Applications are available in the counselor’s office

·         Completed application packet is due to Mrs. Hudson by Friday, April 6th

 

Vocational Rehabilitation Scholarship-

·         Must provide proof of disability or physical challenge

·         Senior, must have asthma, community service, leadership, and academic achievement

Herb Hanes-Bill Sparks Scholarship-

·       Varsity athletics and have been accepted to a 4 year Alabama college or university

Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union Scholarship-

Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school students who are credit union   members and planning to pursue post-secondary education in the fall of 2018. Eligible applicants must exemplify credit union values of personal and civic responsibility through their grades, extracurricular activities, essay responses, letter(s) of recommendation, and/or community service.

The deadline for application is Friday, April 6th.

National Coalition of 100 Black Women Scholarship-

·         Black female high school senior

·         Applications are available in counselor’s office

·         Completed applications must be postmarked by April 6th

 

UAB Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ALSAMP)-

            June 1- August 10, 2018 (10 weeks)

The ALSAMP Summer Bridge Program is a 10- week academic opportunity funded by the National Science Foundation for underrepresented minority students accepted  to UAB that plan to major in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) for the fall of 2018 at UAB.

Eligible students must:

·         Be an underrepresented minority 2018 high school graduate

·         Be accepted to UAB for the 2018 Fall Semester

·         Declare a university major in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM)

·         Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or greater

·         Have an ACT score of 20 or greater

·         Submit a completed ALSAMP Summer Bridge Application on or before Friday, April 20th

OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE FOR LHS STUDENTS

 

GIG: Giving Is Good Summer volunteer program-

·         Looking for GIG volunteer candidates entering the Grades 8-12

·         Exhibit leadership qualities such as reliability, dedication, cooperation and compassion

·         Request that volunteers serve a minimum of 32 total hours in the program between June 4 and July 27

·         Applications are available in the counselor’s office or on the volunteer page of the website   https://www.unitedability.org/about/volunteer/

·         Completed application package due by April 27th

 

Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop-

·         June 4-22

·         For rising freshmen, sophomore, juniors, and seniors to apply

·         Each day they will work with nationally recognized writers in small workshops and individual conferences in poetry, fiction, and other genres.

·         There are scholarships to support students with financial need.

·         Students may also elect to receive one hour of college course credit for their work.
