Basic Computer Skills
This class is Part I or the four part Basic Computer Skills workshop. We will cover computer basics such as: the general over view of the computer, using the mouse, opening, saving, and closing files, using a CD-ROM, etc. Perfect Workshop for the beginning computer user!
Basic Computer Skills for Seniors
This class is designed for seniors to learn computer basics, email, and internet navigation. Topics discussed in this class may differ from week to week depending on class feedback. A one-hour open lab for seniors follows this class for an additional and unique hands-on, one-on-one learning experience.
This short course will teach you the fundamentals of e-mail, a skill that has become the most popular use of the Internet. E-mail allows you to send a message to anyone with access to the web. In addition, you can attach other files to that message. With a little effort you can also create lists of people so that a group of friends, colleagues or relatives can instantly receive the same message. E-mail is a reliable, convenient, easy to use, instantaneous messaging system that helps us all keep in touch with each other. Taking the Basic Computer Skills class first is strongly recommended.
Word Processing Skills I
This class will help you master the fundamental skills involved in word processing using Mircrosoft Word. No matter what word processing program you use, there are certain skills that are used in all versions. These skills give you the basics for arranging a text document to be as attractive and organized as possible.
Word Processing II
This class will help you master intermediate skills involved in word processing using Microsoft Word. No matter what word processing program you use, there are certain skills that are used in all versions. These skills will help you move beyond the basics of word processing.
Introduction to Prezi
This class will teach the basics of the popular open source “zooming” presentation software Prezi. Come learn how to make your presentations stand out above the rest!
Introduction to Facebook
Join in on all the fun that social networking has to offer! Come learn the basics of setting up your Facebook profile. Security and privacy settings will be discussed and an overview on how to utilize your page to keep in touch with friends and family!
Introduction to Excel
This class will teach you how to create a basic spreadsheet using Excel. We will cover some basic formatting, sorting and graphing features as well.
Uploading Digital Photos
Bring your camera, USB cord, and SD Card to class. If you have a laptop, you may bring that as well. We will teach you to safely download your cameras on to the computer and save them to a flash drive or CD.
Navigating the Web
This class will help get the most out of your experience with the World Wide Web. World Wide Web has become an essential daily experience for a large percentage of our population. Participants will master the fundamental skills involved in intelligent web use.
Resume and Cover Letters
This class covers the basics of resume and cover letter writing. Participants will be given the opportunity to develop and fine-tune a resume and cover letter for either a specific job or to use for general job searches.
Job Search Techniques
This class will start with a brief overview of job application, resume, and job interview basics and will be followed by a discussion on how and why to create a job search plan. Techniques to combat employment related barriers, including employment gaps, job hopping, poor references, and criminal backgrounds, will also be included.
Job Hunting in the 21st Century
This class is for the beginning computer user and presents an introduction to the world of computer based job searching and application. Topics discussed include the basics of online job searching and the “do’s” and “don’ts” of completing online job applications. Participants will be given the opportunity to work, hands on, through the process of creating an email account for use in the job search process.
Interviewing Tips and Tricks!
Participants will get an overview of interview “dos and don’ts” and will be provided with an explanation of the interview process, from preparation to follow-up. Learn how to market yourself effectively in the single most aspect of the job search process: the interview!
This class is designed for all you picture takers out there! We will learn about some scrapbooking basics and use MS Publisher to create pages in a fun and creative way. In every class we discuss different websites that offer free downloads and awesome ideas.
Applying for a position on Fort Drum? If so, then this class is for you. We will discuss the "dos" and "don'ts" when using the Resumix system and applying for a job online.
Introduction to Skype
Skype is a video calling software. This class will teach you the basics of how to use Skype for calling loved ones, conducting meetings and interviews, or collaborating on ideas.
Introduction to PowerPoint
This class will teach you how to create a basic presentation using PowerPoint. We will cover formatting basics, inserting pictures and text boxes, and transition basics.
Archiving with Shutterfly
This class will introduce you to Shutterfly, a free online archival for digital photos. We will show you how to edit your photos and how to create unique gifts for friends and family.
