Career Opportunities on Location (COOL) Week
COOL Week is a structured, week-long, work-based learning experience for qualified 12th grade students in Leander ISD. Students are placed in a business or agency for a few days or a full week in a career field that they may otherwise not necessarily have access to observe.  This program is called COOL Week because it gives you new Career knowledge and skills through Opportunities provided On a job Location rather than in the classroom setting.  It will also give you a chance to apply knowledge and skills as well as observe in a job setting related to what you have been learning in your high school courses.

This year, COOL Week 2018 will take place February 18, 2019- February 22, 2019. To learn more, visit the LISD COOL Week website.

What's so great about COOL Week?
I like the way our former superintendent, Dr. Champion, put it in the January 27, 2009 edition of the Hill Country News:

"Finally, one of the crown jewels of the LISD college- and career-readiness program is Career Opportunities on Location (COOL) Week. Simply put, COOL Week is a time when students are encouraged to spend a week job shadowing onsite in an industry where they have an interest in pursuing a career. The experience culminates in a presentation, which involves problem-solving and teamwork skills.

A favorite saying around LISD is, “sometimes it's just as important to know what you don't want to do, as it is to know what you do want to do. College is an expensive place to find out.” COOL Week allows students to explore interests that they have and to “try on” careers before they enter college or trade schools. The major goal is for students to become aware of the aptitudes, education and training required to be successful in their chosen profession. COOL Week is a fabulous learning tool for students who take full advantage of it."

A great deal of work will go into the preparation for COOL Week.  The businesses and agencies will plan activities that will provide you with new knowledge about the world of work and your future. This is also a chance for prospective employers to see the high quality of your work, which may lead to internships or summer job offers!
