Welcome to this school year! My name is Denise Teague and I am the Dyslexia Therapist at Parkside Elementary.  I graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Tx. with a Bachelor’s in Special Education and Early Childhood Certification. I received my Master’s in Early Literacy at Concordia University. I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist or CALT.

As a Dyslexia Therapist, we are required to go through Dyslexia Specialist Preparation Program which takes several summers of intense training and a total of 3 years of observations and practicums. My training as a specialist began at Scottish Rite Learning Center and I completed the training with Neuhaus Education Center in Houston. I was trained in an Orton-Gillingham based program called Basic Language Skills. This is primarily what I use with my students, but I also have training with Lindamood Bell, Rite Flight, REWARDS, Developing Metacognitive Skills, Project Read, along with other programs, which I use as needed.

I am married to my husband David and we have one son, Bryan, who is married and lives with his family in Euless, Tx. Bryan was my inspiration to become a Dyslexia Therapist. He is dyslexic, but is now a successful band director in the Mansfield School District.
