2016-2017

Hi, my name is Nina Phelan. I am the Dyslexia Specialist at Grandview Hills Elementary School. Although this is my first year at GVHE, this will be my thirteenth year with Leander ISD and my twentieth as an educator; I have experience teaching students from two years old to adult. My passion is reading. Teaching reading and motivating students to become efficient and effective learners is the most meaningful and rewarding work I can imagine.

I am a Reading Specialist, and also have teaching certifications in Elementary Self Contained, Secondary English, ESL, Special Education, and as a Master Reading Teacher.  I have a Bachelor's degree in English, Language Studies, from San Francisco State University and a Master's degree in Education, Literacy Studies, from University of Texas Arlington. I was trained in the Basic Language Skills program (BLS), which is the dyslexia program we use in elementary school, at Rawson Saunders Institute in Austin.

I have been married for twenty five years, and have two children who are both LISD graduates. One is a recent college grad and the other is a junior in college. My husband and I enjoy RV'ing, kayaking and hiking. I also am an avid reader, and am always looking for the next good book to read.  I look forward to finding "just the right book" for your child, as well.

-a belief they can attain the goal
-a plan to achieve the goal
