Welcome to Mrs. Deckinga's class! We will be on a great adventure this year as we develop our literacy skills!
Required Materials
6th Grade ELA: Notebook (2 composition books to get through the year), pencil, highlighters, notebook paper, binder, agenda, device (with earbuds), and novel.
Other Materials
Some students prefer to have their own instead of using shared classroom supplies. This is a list of materials we will be using throughout the year.
6th Grade ELA: Sticky notes, index cards, colored pencils, markers, glue stick, colored pens, card stock.
Book Club Books: A list of possible book club book choices will be listed in those units. We have 4 copies of each title to share throughout the day. If your student prefers to have their own copy they are welcome to use their own copy. Some students prefer this method so that they can write in the text directly. Others prefer to read outside of class or at a pace different from their peers. Whatever the reason, if your student is providing their own copy of the text make sure that their name is on it.

Though we will hold conferences daily within the class period, there are times that additional conferencing is needed. Office hours / tutorials are every morning 8:35-9:00am and Thursday 4:20-4:40.
Successful use of office hours typically depends on how you plan for it. Come with a specific question and all associated materials.
