Hello! My name is Katherine McClellan and I am very excited about being your child’s teacher this year. Before I started teaching, I was an instructional assistant in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities at Cypress Elementary for three years and taught kindergarten for 9 years. My first two years of teaching were at Deer Creek Elementary. When Westside was opening, I requested to transfer after seeing the unique design of the building. I have been teaching at Westside since it first opened. This is my second year to be teaching 1st grade and I am looking forward to a new adventure!

I would like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself. I grew up in Leander in a large family.  I graduated from Leander High School many years ago!  I am the youngest of three sisters and one brother. My sisters each have two children (one boy and one girl) and my brother has three girls, a total of six nieces and three nephews!!! My mother was a kindergarten teacher for 26 years at Cypress Elementary. She recently lost her battle with cancer April 2015.  I have learned everything I know about math from my wonderful father who passed away 6 years ago.  In April 2013, I married a wonderful man named Samuel. He is a laboratory scientist at Brackenridge Hospital.

In 2005, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University.  I decided to continue my education, graduating in December 2009 with a Master of Education in Administration from Concordia University. I am certified to teach Pre-k through 4th grade. Later, I became ESL certified and also received my Administration Certificate. Someday I may want to apply to be a principal, but right now I am happy teaching my highly intelligent young children!  I look forward to working with you and your children this school year!
