About Me...

I am a native Texan from the Houston area. I have lived in the Austin area for over 30 years. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Concordia University. I changed careers to move into teaching in 2016.

I have been married over 20 years. We have two amazing children, and 2 dogs and 2 cats. We live locally and love to watch LHS football and marching band! Go LIONS!

I am passionate about my family and faith, reading, living in Texas, and Diet Coke. I love finding new books to lose myself in, and I love all things Disney and Universal! My favorite not-in-Texas place is Orlando, Florida.

My Teaching philosophy...

In my classroom, I strive to create an environment where each student feels valued, respected, and empowered to embark on a journey of discovery. As a 5th-grade teacher, I am committed to fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom. My philosophy is rooted in the belief that education should be holistic, student-centered, and geared towards nurturing both academic growth and personal development.

I continuously seek to create a safe space where open dialogue is encouraged, and mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth. I believe that a growth mindset is essential for success, and I actively promote resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges. I integrate technology as a tool to enhance learning, but I also emphasize the importance of face-to-face interactions, respectful communication, and active listening.

One of my primary goals as an educator is to instill a strong sense of empathy and community in my students. I facilitate activities that promote teamwork, peer collaboration, and an understanding of diverse perspectives. I want my students to not only excel academically but also become compassionate citizens who contribute positively to their communities.

Ultimately, my teaching philosophy centers on nurturing the whole child — intellectually, emotionally, and socially. By creating a nurturing, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment, I hope to inspire my 5th-grade students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and compassionate individuals who are well-prepared to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of them.
