Weekly Newsletter

Week of September 6-September 9

Sunday, September 4~HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAMILLE!! :)

This week in Language Arts we are focusing on Main Idea in Reading and we are identifying the subject and predicate in sentences for our grammar skill.  In writing, we have been creating a piece titled "Super Self".  We brainstormed the process using a powerpoint in google classroom.  This week, we will begin expanding on our ideas and actually begin writing a narrative about our "Super Self".

I began sending home books last week in book baggies.  I looked at the data from the end of year reading levels for each of my students and created a range of books for them to choose from.  They could choose from chapter books and shorter books.  I would like for them to read from their book as part of their nightly 20 minutes.  I know that everyone has library books that they are reading from and also favorite books at home, but I would like for them to spend part of their time reading from their "classroom book".  This will begin the routine of what it will look like to bring home books each day from school when we begin our Reading Groups.  I am giving everyone time each day to exchange their book if they are finished.  This is part of our small group routine.  They should keep their book in the book baggie and return it to school each day in their purple homework folder.

This week in Social Studies, we will review mapping vocabulary and add it to our INB.  We will also practice logging in to our social studies account so that we can practice logging in and listening to the Texas Weekly Readers.
