Academic (1st and 4th)

This week we have begun our newest project: The Poetry Book. The Poetry Book will have four components which are a poet and poem analysis, a "This Is Just To Say" poem, Narrative poem, and "Ode to my Neighborhood" poem.

The Poetry Book will be due on September 18th.

We are also reviewing poetic devices and structures! Students will have a test over poetry next Thursday, September 14th.

Pre-AP (3rd, 6th, and 8th)

This week we have begun our dive into poetry by reviewing and discussing poetic devices. We have examined a variety of poems from famous poets such as Carl Sandburg to Edgar Allan Poe.

Click Here to view Ms. Cuadrado's Notes!

The Mosaic Project assigned to students on the first day of school will be due September 11th

Students should also note that there will be homework this weekend! The Article of the Week (AOW) has been given out today, September 8th,  and will be due September 15th.

Finally, there will be a poetry test on Thursday, September 14th. Students should use the notes they have taken in class, along with reviewing Ms. Cuadrado's notes, to best prepare for the test.

What a GREAT first week!

The first week has come to a close, but the fun is only just beginning! As said throughout the week, and at Open House, students and parents will be able to view a recap of our week each FRIDAY.  I've included the recap for this week along with a helpful few links.

I'd like to reiterate that students should be checking my website and Google Classroom regularly. Many of their assignments will be assigned through Google Classroom.  All due dates will be routinely stressed verbally, on our back board, our front board, on Remind101, and Google Classroom.

IMPORTANT - It is an 8th grade expectation that all students have a planner or an agenda to track all assignments, projects, and test dates. For Language Arts, students may use a paper or electronic planner.

As a final note, please make sure to check my Class Resources page to sign up for my Remind101! It is helpful for both, students and parents.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Welcome to the 2017 - 2018 School Year!

I am so thrilled to get this year started with all our wonderful returning Falcons! I will make sure to update my website each week so that parents can see all the amazing things we are doing and for our students to reference!

If you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.

Our Last Day

posted Jun 1, 2017, 7:11 AM by Cristina Cuadrado   [ updated Jun 1, 2017, 9:28 AM ]

Hello to all Parents and their Tiny Teacup Humans,

This year has been incredible! I have thoroughly enjoyed having these students in my class

The end of the year is always pretty tough for a teacher. It's difficult to let go of students especially as they make the transition from middle school to high school. I know the path ahead is new and a little scary - but I haven't a doubt in my mind that they'll do great! If this year proves anything, it's that this group of students are more resilient than ever. They will triumph over the hurdles that are presented to them with consistency, diligence, and their strive for excellence.

I hope that you have a wonderful Summer Break full of reading!

Academic Students and Parents
It has been proven that reading over the summer helps students as they enter a new school year by building their lexile and fluency levels! These are just a few book titles of suggestion if your student is struggling to find a book.

Is your student STILL struggling to find a book? Take a look at the website "Your Next Read". You can enter the title of a book you really enjoyed to see similar titles suggested to you. It's a great resource! Click on the button below to go to the website.

Pre-AP Students and Parents

Please keep in mind that Pre-AP students are expected to read a novel off the Pre-AP English I Book List. You can click the link here to view it. I have also included the book titles and their excerpts below.
Have a great Summer!

If you are having trouble narrowing down which book to choose, you can always send me an e-mail! I can help give you some suggestions based on what I have learned about you this year.
