This will be my 8th year teaching at Canyon Ridge Middle School. I graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Education). I spent my entire childhood in College Station, TX. So, yes... that means I am a huge Texas A&M fan. My family still lives in College Station, so I spend my weekends there during football season. I have a wonderful wife, Katie, who works at Round Rock ISD as a behavior specialist. I also have a wonderful daughter, Scarlett, who just turned two.
Why do I teach...? I found that I lost my love for school around the 7th grade growing up. Sadly, I didn't regain that love until my Junior year of college. As I look back, I think it's because no teacher in 7th grade really seemed to care about me or my learning. I can't name a single teacher I had in middle school. I teach because I want to be a positive influence in a students life. I don't want them to end up hating school for 8 years like I did. Yes, students are learning science in my class, but they are also learning to be a difference maker in this world.
Why I teach: I use to hate school. I had an elementary school teacher tell me I was "too stupid" to read a book my friends were reading. I later had a teacher who changed my life. I began working hard, and learning how to learn. When my dad noticed my shift he asked what was changing. I told him I had a teacher who believed in me. His response was - good teachers believe in you until you can believe in yourself. That was when I knew I wanted to teach. My second interest became science, so I received my Degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Colorado, and began my teaching career, immediately after graduating. I've never looked back. This job has kept me laughing, loving and believing in our future. I've been blessed to get to work the last 11 years here at Canyon, and I love our community, and feel honored to play a part!
My family: My husband, 12 year old daughter and two dogs live here in Steiner. Mark and I met rowing crew at CU, which inspired our daughters name. We enjoy the outdoors together either on the lakes, in the mountains, or watching our daughter play sand volleyball.
This will be my 6th year teaching at Canyon Ridge. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors degree in Biology and I also received my certification in Criminal Forensics from the University of Florida. I am a HUGE Longhorn fan (Hook 'Em!). My husband, Lou, is in the Army reserve and a police officer for Caldwell County. We have two wonderful kids. Lou (IV) is 6 years old and Emalynn is 15 months old. Oh and we have two crazy dachshunds, Shadow and Jerry. =)
Why I teach?: It wasn't until I entered my junior year in high school that I realized I was not prepared to deal with the everyday scenarios that were happening in the classroom. I was not familiar with how to take notes, how to study more efficiently or how to manage time. It was in my high school Biology class that I was blessed with a teacher who not only enjoyed teaching us Science, but gave us the tools to be more successful learners. When I entered college, it was these skills that helped me be more confident and motivated to WANT to learn. I am hoping not only to teach my students how much fun Science can be, but also help them how to be more successful learners.

I teach because I knew from the time I was young that I wanted to be a teacher. I love teaching science and now after 32 years in the profession, I love it as if it were my first day. I have a BS degree in Chemistry, Biology and Art and a MS degree in Supervision. I have 2 dogs, Chuy and Dexter, which keep me busy all the time. I enjoy traveling and anytime I get a chance, you will find me at Disney World. I am truly blessed to have been hired here at Canyon Ridge and look forward to teaching these wonderful students.
