Communication:

If you need to talk to one of your child’s teachers, please feel free to email us.  Email is the quickest form of communication.  If you need to set up a conference with all of your child’s teachers, please email Ms. Vaca to set this up.

 Homework/Planner:

Organization is one essential key to success.  Students will be required to use a planner or their Google Calendar in all classes to keep up with assignments.  Students will be adding each teacher’s Google Calendar to their own personal Google Calendars.  Parents are encouraged to do this as well.  Additional information about our classes can be found on our web pages.  You can find a link to all of our email addresses, calendars, and webpages on the Team 6H web page

https://sites.google.com/a/leanderisd.org/6s

Grades:

Grades for Team 6H will be determined by individual teachers.  You will find grading policies on the department websites.  All parents can access Parent Connect to monitor their child’s grades.  We will also help the students set up their own TX Connect accounts so that they can check their own grades often.  If you are not registered for Parent Connect, please contact our registrar, Kari Swartz.  kari.swartz@leanderisd.org

Absences:

Students must see each individual teachers to obtain missed work or to schedule a time for missed instruction.  If your child is going to be absent for a prolonged amount of time (more than 2 or 3 days), please contact Ms. Vaca to arrange to pick up make up work.

GOOD ATTENDANCE = LESS STRESS & MORE SUCCESS

Tutorials:

Each department will have a tutorial schedule.  See the Team 6H web page for this schedule.  Students may attend tutorials with any 6th grade teacher.  They need to come prepared with specific questions or problems that you are having.  We are here to help!

Snacks:

Lunch isn’t until 1:38, so students should bring a healthy snack to eat mid-morning.  Water bottles are also highly encouraged.  However, no other drinks are permitted in the classroom.

Honorable Hawks:

HMS recognizes students for their academic achievements.  After the first six weeks’ report card is issued, students may apply to become an Honorable Hawk.  They can get an application from any 6H teacher or download it from the HMS website.

High Flying Hawks:

Each 6 weeks, Team 6H recognizes those students who are being successful.  Success doesn’t just mean good grades.  We recognize students who work hard, show improvement, have outstanding behavior, are helpful, participate in class, turn in all work on time, etc.

Supplies:

Students are expected to bring all required supplies to each class every day.  Supplies will need to be replenished throughout the school year as needed.  Students need a durable supply bag for their pencils, pens, markers, scissors, etc.

Behavior:

Each teacher keeps a documentation binder in the classroom to track misbehavior.  After 4 documentations in a 6 weeks period, a student will be reminded that he/she will be assigned after school detention if they receive a 5th documentation.  Additional documentations in the same 6 weeks will each result in a detention.  Detention is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 4:15-4:45.  Parents will be notified so that they can make transportation arrangements.

We are looking forward to a successful year!
