Abbreviations and Acronyms

These are abbreviations and acronyms you might commonly hear around Tombaugh - also check out the Glossary on the main LCPS web site.
AR: Accelerated Reader - AR is a progress monitoring software assessment in wide use by primary and secondary schools for monitoring the practice of reading.  Students take quizzes on books they have read.  Reports regarding reading level and comprehension skills are available through the software.  Library books at Tombaugh have AR level and point information on the spine of the book when it is available.  Parents can also check to see if a book they have at home or from another source has a test, or how many points the book is worth by going to the web site
DAC: District Advisory Council - check out the DAC page under For Parents on the main LCPS web site.  The DAC was formed so the opinions of parents and the community at-large could be heard by LCPS administration.
DDPre: Developmental Disability Pre-school
IEP (Individual Educational Plan): For any child with a disability, an IEP team develops an IEP that is a "living document" and puts it into effect before providing special education and related services to a student.
MAP: Measures of Academic Progress
SAC: School Advisory Council - Every public school in Las Cruces has a SAC, which assists the school’s administration with school-based decision-making and involves parents in their children’s education.
SPED: SPecial EDucation
STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
