Dolores Garcia Media Center
Welcome to our Library Media Center!
The library media center is located at the south end of the school in the first hallway. Hours for the Media Center are from 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The media center's staff members are Mrs. Monica Herrera.

Borrowing Books from the Library
Books may be checked out by all students, staff and parents of the Dona Ana Elementary School community. If you would like to check out books, come by the library and our staff will assist you in the process to get a patron number. Once that is done, you may check out books. Students and Parents are allowed to have two books checked out from the library. Books may be borrowed for 1 week and may be renewed three times.

Responsibilities of Borrowing Books
When you borrow books from the library, you agree to take care of library materials so that they will be in good shape for the next user. It is your responsibility to return books on time.

If library books are damaged or lost, they must be paid for. The charge will be the replacement cost of a new book. The average cost of a new library book is approximately $16.00. The library does not charge fines for overdue items.

Returning Materials to the Library
When the library is open, you should return materials to the circulation desk. Please check materials to make sure that you have not left anything important in books and that the items are the ones that you checked out and do not belong to another library.

Finding Materials in the Library
The greatest resource for locating books and things in the library is the library staff. Helping you find information is the main part of their job. The staff can help you use the automated catalog (OPAC) to find materials.

Using the OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalog)
The library has six computers available to find materials in the library. You may do a title, author, subject, everything, or series search. You can also do advanced searches when specific materials are needed. There is also a visual catalog for our younger students to use. Again, if you need help, the library staff will be more than willing to help you find the information you need.

Book Fairs

Every year the media center sponsors two book fairs where students and parents can come and purchase books at the library. Normally these fairs are held during the months of November and April. An informational flyer is sent home with students the week before the event.
