Teaching: Before joining the College administration full time, I taught courses in Genetics and Evolutionary
Biology, Neurobiology, and Immunology. I believe that students
learn best by doing, so my courses emphasized problem-solving, data analysis,
and student-designed lab projects.
In my research students and I studied development of the vertebrate nervous
system, with a particular focus on intercellular communication between developing
nerve cells and their target tissues. Our publications and presentations are identified on my CV, below.
I also have a strong interest in promoting effective undergraduate science education, and have been actively involved in several organizations that work toward this end, as outlined in "other activities".
