Mass Media Cricial Commentary

Purpose
This assignment invites you to consider how concepts, themes and approaches from our class can inform critical readings of mass media representations of the MENA region. 

Guidelines

1) Select 1 - 3 media items (e.g. newspaper articles, video clips, political cartoons) that represent a contemporary topic, theme or event related to the MENA region. 

2) Write a 3 - 4 (double spaced) page essay that includes direct quotations and citations from at least two readings from our class syllabus. Your essay should develop points inspired by class concepts, themes and approaches. 

Submissions

1) Submit a hard copy of your essay that includes a bibliography (Chicago author-date style) of the media items and syllabus sources. 

2) Develop a slide show that includes images of the media items, syllabus source quotations included in the essay, and a statement relflecting one of your main points/findings.  The slide show can be pasted into our SOAN 285 - Presentations slideshow. This slide show will provide an anchor for a five minute presentation during our final exam period.
