How does the view of ethnicity and identity in The Rabbi’s Cat and Shenoda challenge (or reinforce) Orientalist notions of the Middle East? How can we fit in these concepts of ethnicity and identity with Asad’s concept of discursive tradition?
We have talked about various anthropological models of the Middle East. What models do you see the authors utilize in these readings when discussing relationships, and in what ways (or do they seem to use their own model)?
