Research Proposal
Successful proposals demonstrate research design skills we have been developing in the class. Key features include location in the scholarly discipline (they say / I say), attention to validity, feasibility, and strict adherence to proposal guidelines
For the purposes of this assignment (3-5 pages, single spaced), you will write a proposal that follows the SAAB grant guidelines. You are encouraged to write a proposal that aligns with a possible SOAN senior thesis, prepares you for possible independent study, and/or can be submitted to SAAB for funding.
Application Procedures
1) The page with your application information and required signatures (one page per student applying).
2) Detailed answers to the questions on the following page. This part of the application should be at least 3-5 pages in length.
3) A detailed timeline of the project including a detailed schedule of your planned research.
4) Two itemized lists of expenditures detailing an optimum (your preferred) and a minimum (the absolute least amount you would need) budget request, within a table clearly displaying the items of the budget and the delineations between the optimum and minimum amounts. Be prepared to justify all items. (Optional)
SAAB Research Grant Questions
1) Please provide a detailed description of the project. What is the purpose of your project? How is it academic in nature?
2) How did you come up with the idea? What other research have you done on or relating to this topic? What are its applications to your field of study and beyond?
3) What is the methodology of your research?* What questions will you be asking? How will you go about answering these questions?
4) The SAAB bylaws read, “SAAB requires its grant recipients to bring their project back to the LC community and encourages them to bring it to the larger global community.” Please discuss how you intend to fulfill this. Describe how your project will impact and benefit the greater Lewis & Clark community, both in the short- and long-term. Also discuss if you have plans to give your project greater exposure on the state, national, or international levels.
