BEAM(T) Assignment

Purpose: The purposes of this assignmen are to: 1) help you identify how bibliographic and other texual materials are used in framing and supporting research based writing; 2) develop analytical habits for using bibliographic and other texual materials in your own research projects in this class, other SOAN classes and your senior thesis. 

Assignment: Submit an analysis of one research article or chapter from the class syllabus based on he BEAM Rubric: Background; Exhibit;  Argument;  Method/Theory.
Each analysis should be 2 -3 single spaced pages submitted in hard copy. The analys should be divided into four sections, one for each cateogy of use. Each section should include: 

1) A pragraph explaining what Bizup means by the category, supported by a direct, properly cited quoation from Bizup
2) One paragraph discribing how one source in the article/chapter is used in the relevant manner. This section should include a direct, cited quotation from the article/chatper.
3) A properly formatted bibiliography containing: Bizup;  the article/chapter  you are analyzing; the relevant sources from each section if and how they appear bibliography of the article/chapter.

Evaluation: Assignments will be  evaluated as ✓- ,✓,✓+ by  section and on the assignment as a whole. Students will have the opportunity to revise their assignment for resubmission. There will also be an opporunity, though not a requirment, to repeat the assignment.
