Observing with LBC

Before
starting observing with LBC, check with the OSA as soon as possible that the primary mirrors are in thermal equilibrium with the air and do not have temperature gradients across them. If this is the case, it will be extremely difficult if not impossible to collimate. Follow the OSA's recommendation on whether it is safe to proceed with LBC, or switch to another instrument.

Operations Overview:

  1. To start up LBCs, From an OBS Machine, bring up lbccontrol from firefox.  Power up the camera from the Power tab.  Start RB_Science from a terminal.
  2. At the start of the night, take (test) biases.
  3. Before observing starts, start up iraf and set up LBTtools.
  4. Execute OBs by loading and playing them in the OB Execution UI.
  5. Collimate at each new pointing, or every 30 to 40 minutes, running the co-pointing.ob.
  6. At the end of the night, disconnect from the telescope and power off the instruments.
