9th International Workshop on Oxide Surfaces (IWOX-IX)

January 5-10, 2014       Granlibakken Conference Center, Tahoe City, California

Purpose

IWOX brings together specialists in the field of oxide materials, encompassing aspects such as growth and characterization, chemical properties (e.g., in catalysis, where it plays a major role as an active or passive support), photochemical properties, physical properties including magnetic and conductive oxides, HTc superconductors, topological insulators, Theory, etc.  An added point of interest for the 2014 workshop is oxides as energy storage materials for cathodes in batteries, an area that is seeing a rapid growth in industry and academia.

History

The IWOX workshop series is the leading international forum for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge basic research in the physics and chemistry of oxide surfaces. Since its inception in 1999, after the Les Houches oxide conference in France in 1997 ("IWOX-0"), IWOX workshops have been held every two years and have consistently attracted the best minds in oxide surface science from the US, Europe and Asia. Occuring biannually,  IWOX-8 was held in Europe, IWOX-7 in Asia, IWOX-6 in Europe, IWOX-5 in the USA. This year it rotates again to the Americas, with the USA being the host country.
