Welcome to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's subsurface data access site.

This site provides access to data and interpretations regarding the subsurface at LBNL. The data is organized by decade shown to the left. Click on the gray arrow to the left of decade of interest.

For the 1940s and 1950s the menu at top left provides a link to geotechnical files generated for each decade. For all decades after the 1950s, clicking on the arrow provides a list of years in the decade. Clicking on the arrow for a particular year provides links to one or both of the data sets. The two data sets available are:

1) “Geotechnical” - This provides access to the LBNL’s geotechnical files for the selected time period, some of which include boring logs. These files consist primarily of geotechnical reports prepared by engineering consultants making recommendations for designing structures at the lab. The geotechnical files also include consultant reports regarding landslides, landslide repairs and field notes.

2) “Boring logs” - This provides access to individual boring logs from LBNL’s Environmental Restoration Program (ERP) for the selected time period. The ERP’s quarterly progress reports for the last five years and most major reports for the last ten years are available at http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/erp/html/documents.shtml. Additional ERP reports are available in hardcopy at the main branch of the Berkeley Public Library (http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/erp/html/documents.shtml).

The documents are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat Reader for viewing. You may download a free copy of the software from Adobe's website.
