User Facilities

This page provides a gateway to information on the User Facilities operated by The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy.  A User Agreement is required to be in place before experiments may begin and a facility may be utilized.  The User Agreement defines the terms and conditions for the use of the User Facilities and is the mechanism that allows users to retain ownership of their intellectual property.  Due to the unique differences in the nature of the research and how the research is conducted in the various User Facilities, two unique Non-Proprietary User Agreements are currently in use.  One Agreement covers the Advanced Light Source, the National Center for Electron Microscopy, and the Molecular Foundry facilities.  The other Agreement covers the Joint Genome Institute.

The following links provide additional information on each User Facility:

ALS, NCEM & TMF:

The ALS, NCEM and TMF User Facilities require only one blanket User Agreement Appendix for a User Organization.  The blanket Appendix allows all User researchers affiliated with the organization to access the specified User Facilities provided that the User researcher's project has been approved and the facility use has been scheduled by the User Facility

JGI:

The JGI User Facility has two User Agreement Appendices that cover DNA sequencing work and DNA synthesis work and cover all approved sequencing or synthesis projects for User researchers from a specific User Organization.

Inter-Laboratory Utilization Agreement:

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has executed a Bilateral DOE Laboratory Utilization Agreement (BDLUA) with the following National Labs:
