Career Day is coming!
Our 2nd annual Career Exposition Day is coming on January 25th. We are looking for people willing to give about 2.5 hours of your time to share what you do for a living with interested students. Each presenter is asked to prepare a 20-25 minute session for middle school students. This session may be repeated 1-3 times that morning. Based on the interest of our students, here are the larger career categories that we are seeking. We are definitely not limited to these career categories if you wish to present! Please contact Mrs. Komac at hkomac@lb65.org if you are willing to be a presenter.

After the break, students will begin examining the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, focusing on the influential figures of the time periods.

Science- Mrs. Cuarto
This week we wrapped up the first part of of our genetics unit by looking at how traits with multiple variations are inherited. Students took a test and will receive the results after break. Then, we'll start looking at mutations and natural selection.

This week in Language Arts, students finished gathering evidence from Fahrenheit 451 for their author's craft essay that will begin after break. Students enjoyed creating their own Kahoot games surrounding author's craft in F451. After break we will begin writing our Bend I Theme Essay.

Algebra 1- Mr. Jakcsy and Mrs. Komac
This week students concluded Chapter 5, which focused on arithmetic and geometric sequences. After the break, we'll begin Chapter 7, which covers exponential growth and decay, as well as fractional exponents.

HSAATH-
Mr. Jakcsy and Mrs. Komac
This week, we wrapped up our work with quadratics. When we return in 2017, we'll be starting our unit on transformations! A highlight of this unit is the "Grumpy Bat" project.

Health- Ms. Fink
This week, health students have been learning about the signs and symptoms of depression and how one can be effected by the chemical imbalance occurring in the brain.  As we finish up this information, students are learning about how they can help someone who needs to seek talk therapy.   As the week comes to a close, students have started working on their "Give Your Best Advice" projects.  These will be due when we return from break.  Have a great holiday!

EspañolSra. Ogren
We are beginning to wrap up this Mercado Unit! This week we discussed phrases one would say while bargaining and vocabulary for paying for items. The students have also been learning how to conjugate verbs in the past tense this week as we discuss activities we've done in the past. On January 9th, we will be running an in-class mercado in which the students will be bringing in items to sell to their classmates. They will work with a partner on this.

Français-Mme Szostak
Students enjoyed our Bûche de Noël Bake Off on Monday! Congratulations to Colette, Ariadna, Louise, and Zoé for their winning and delicious cakes! Thank you to all the parent that provided baking support to their kids and hopefully you'll start a new tradition in your family! The rest of the week we watched the Louis Malle film, Au Revoir Les Enfants. This award winning film tells the story of an unlikely friendship between two boys during World War II. Joyeux Noël tout le monde!

Improv- Mrs. Olmstead
This week the students had the opportunity to perform in their first partner scene which focused on showing and justifying a certain emotion and then "dialing it up" through out the scene.  After winter break we will continue to work on the improv element of character.  Have a wonderful and relaxing winter break!
