Course Updates

LA - Huddlestun & Wegrzyn

This week, students completed Bend III of our Argument Unit of Study.  Students choose a meaningful topic or cause and created a project to argued their position.  They used all their argument writing skills to formulate a claim, research with a critical eye, back up their reasons with evidence, and address the opposition.  When we return from break, we will begin a non-fiction reading unit.

Math 2 - Tschanz and Carney

This week, students worked on the final concepts in Chapter 4, simplifying expressions with positive and negative terms, and their chapter test was on Thursday and Friday.  After break, students will begin Chapter 5 where they will focus on probability and learning strategies to setup and solve word problems.

Advanced Math 2 - Tschanz

This week, students worked with physical and online tools to construct triangles with given measurements and then compare and analyze their creations.  When students come back from winter break, they will continue an angle project and review the concepts from the unit.  Their unit assessment will be on January 8th.

Algebra - Jakcsy

This week students began chapter 6, which focuses on modeling two-variable data sets. Students will investigate patterns within data, develop trend lines, write equations that model data, and analyze data for potential correlations. We’ll continue chapter 6 when classes resume after break.

HSAATH- Mr. Jakcsy and Mrs. Komac

This week, we wrapped up our work with quadratics. When we return in 2018, we'll be starting our unit on transformations! A highlight of this unit is the "Grumpy Bat" project.

Science - DeYoung

This week the students explored thermal energy. After break, we will investigate sound energy.

Social Studies - Twohig

This week students researched a country of their choice.  They collected data on a variety of topics, from GDP to literacy rates, and political freedom.  With this data, they were able to make an evaluation of that nation, and determine if the future of that country looked successful or failed state.

Spanish - Horner

French - Szostak

This week in French students did oral presentations where they spoke about the ideal classroom. Students created a blueprint of the classroom and were able to include anything that they wanted and felt would be important for their learning success. Students then presented the classroom, describing the various things in the room and saying why they included them. The rooms were fun to see and listening to the students’ presentations was very entertaining! Who knew that ping pong tables and bean bag chairs would promote success in learning French?! Have a wonderful winter break!!

Health - Fink

This week in health, students have been discussing social media and the way in which it can hinder student’s future if they are using it unethically.  We have been discussing the do’s and don’ts of proper technology use and students finished up the week with a project.  Once we return from break, students will be entering the physical activity and nutrition unit.  Have a great winter break!

Art - Mrs. Engel-Julian

This week in art, students continued to work on their open studio piece.  They will finish their project the week we return from break.  Have a safe and wonderful winter break!

Theatre Arts-Olmstead

This week the students finished up their directing projects and performed them for the class.  After break we begin our radio drama unit using sound effects.  Have a wonderful and relaxing winter break!
