Shandon -- a community of many names -- is in Morgan Township at the intersection of several roads, Hamilton-New London, Millville-Shandon (Ohio 748), Alert-New London Road, New Haven Road and Brookville Road (Ohio 126). It also has been known as New London, Paddy's Run, Vaughan, Cambria and Glendower. It was called New London by Welsh settlers. A post office was created June 10, 1831, as Paddy's Run. The first of several changes came Oct. 16, 1879. On that date it was changed to Vaughan; then to Glendower Dec. 20, 1886; back to Paddy's Run Jan. 18, 1888; and to Shandon Aug. 26, 1892. The 1882 Butler County history said: "New London, or 'Bagdad,' as the boys at Bebb's High School used to call the place, was laid out about September 1859. Although a village had long existed there, the old plat was mislaid. The village is entirely within Section 25, near the center."
