Rush Run Wildlife Area

Rush Run Wildlife Area, 1,174 acres, is a public fishing, hunting, trapping and wildlife area maintained by the Division of Wildlife of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. It is in Preble County, northeast of the Butler County community of Somerville (east of U. S. 127). It is described as 17 miles from Hamilton and 14 miles from Middletown. Land purchase started in 1955 and a 54-acre lake was built in 1970 (Rush Run Lake). The ODNR says "management work has included the planting of conifers, protection and improvement of existing woodlands, selection of areas to be returned to woodland through natural succession, planting of prairie grasses and maintenance of open fields."
