Port Union Park, West Chester Twp., is a proposed park planned "at the birthplace of West Chester Twp.," according to township officials. It will focus on the history of the community, its natural resources and the Miami-Erie Canal. The park will include walking-biking paths, a wildlife habitat, historic displays and a restored canal boat. This park will link to a larger area known as the Port Union-Gilmore Ponds Conservation Corridor and will serve as an important stopping point on the Historic Canal Bike Trail.
The Historic Canal Trail will be a multi-purpose trail traveling along the towpaths of the former Miami-Erie Canal from Ohio 747 to the West Chester Twp. boundary. The path will serve bicyclists, skaters, walkers and joggers. It will continue to the Butler County MetroParks' Gilmore Ponds Interpretive Preserve, and will be part of the larger Miami-2-Miami Connection, a regional trail network.
