Newkirk was on Dunwoody Road in Section 32 of Reily Township. It was a station or flag stop on the Cincinnati, Richmond & Muncie (later the Chicago Division of the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company). It was 30.3 railroad miles north of Cincinnati and 32.5 miles south of Richmond, Ind. The CR&M was nicknamed the "Crooked, Rough & Muddy" by residents along its tracks.
