Cambria is now Shandon in Section 25 of Morgan Township. Its previous names include Paddy's Run, New London, Vaughan and Glendower, which are covered in separate entries.
Cambria "is an ancient name of Wales, from Welsh cymy, or cumbri," said The Illustrated Dictionary of Place Names, edited by Kelsie B. Harder. It also means "brotherhood" or "fraternity" for "those who band together in a common cause," said the same source.
Edward Bebb, the original owner of Paddy's Run in 1801, was married Feb. 2, 1802, to Margaret Roberts Owens in Ebensburg in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. They were residing in Paddy's Run Dec. 8, 1802, when their son was born. That child was William Bebb, who would become a governor of Ohio. See entry on Gov. Bebb Preserve for more information on the governor.
