Butler County Government Services Center

Butler County Government Services Center, 315 High Street, Hamilton. Many county offices and courts were relocated to the center in 1999. Ground was broken Nov. 25, 1997, for the 11-story structure at the southwest corner of High Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. An official ribbon cutting was held Dec. 8, 1999. The first occupant of the new building was the board of elections (Aug. 20, 1999) and the first meeting of the board of county commissioners was Oct. 25, 1999. The last move was by the prosecutor's office in January 2001. Before and during construction, several costs were reported, ranging from $35 million to $37 million, and the listed square footage also varied, 225,000, 250,000 and 275,000. When announced, the GSC also was to include Hamilton municipal offices. Instead, the city rented and then purchased the adjacent One Renaissance Center, which shares a common first-floor lobby with the GSC. (See entries for Courthouse and One Renaissance Center.)
