Lakewood Park Junior High History students will cover a wide variety of topics. The sixth grade curriculum is called Heritage Studies and covers topics such as ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Rome, and ends in the Middle Ages. Seventh grade picks up at the end of the Middle Ages and continues through the Renaissance, the Reformation, Latin American exploration, both world wars, the Cold War, and modern Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Eight grade is the American Republic and begins with the founding of the thirteen colonies, the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, Civil War, the world wars, and ends with modern US history.
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents through a variety of hands on projects (newspapers, models, skits, making a movie), researching and presenting a topic, and participating in events such as debates, elections, and student government. History can be subjective, and it is my goal for the students to discover why and/or how a past event has changed the world we live in today, how God has worked through nations and events throughout history, and how we can apply it to our present world.
