What Happens in Music Class when we are at school face to face?

All students from Kindergarten to 4th grade have music class. Lessons normally take place in the new music room located at the end of the K-1st hallway wing, past the office. However due to Covid 19 restrictions set by the state, I will be teaching music from a cart and going from room to room starting in January.

Some Kindergarten 1st and 2nd grade students have music twice a week while some Kindergarten, and all of 3rd and 4th graders have class once a week. Normally during a music lesson, students learn by singing songs, playing instruments, learning dances, playing games, describing music, and composing. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, we will be sanitizing any shared instruments, socially distancing during movement/games and as of right now, singing will not be permitted.

Often, connections are made to what students are learning in other subjects, such as reading or math. Sometimes, students study a historical time period or composer. Other times, students learn about music from various cultures. Occasionally, students are given assessments.

Every music lesson aligns with Michigan music standards.
