Mrs. Carr's Music Room

Winter Program 2019

Donations Needed for New Room

Dear Riverside families,

We now have a music room at Riverside! I am very excited to be able to provide more experiences for our students that are not limited by what fits on a cart. Here is a list of supplies that we would be thankful for having in the new music room:

  • Kleenex
  • Band-aids
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Instruments- Do you have an old band instrument that you aren't needing at home? Please contact me if you are interested in donating any instruments for students to experience in the music room. It does not have to be in working condition.

About Remind:

Another way to stay in touch is by downloading an app called "Remind" onto your phone. This app allows me to send messages to your phone and for you to text me questions while keeping both of our phone numbers safe. Several other teachers at Riverside use this app with success to keep in touch with parents.

What Happens in Music Class?

All students from Kindergarten to 4th grade have music class. Lessons take place in the new music room located at the end of the K-1st hallway wing, past the office.

1st and 2nd grade students have music twice a week while Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th graders have class once a week. During a music lesson, students learn by singing songs, playing instruments, learning dances, playing games, describing music, and composing.

Often, connections are made to what students are learning in other subjects, such as reading or math. Sometimes, students study a historical time period or composer. Occasionally, students are given assessments.

Every music lesson aligns with Michigan music standards. You are welcome to come and visit during music time! Just email me and I will let you know when your child is having class.
