About Us

La`ie Elementary School (LES) is situated on the North Shore on theisland of Oahu, and is one of five public elementary schools that make up the Kahuku High School Complex. La`ie Elementary School is situated below the Brigham Young University Hawai`i Campus and Temple, and is privileged to have the university as a partner in education.La`ie Elementary School implemented the Success For All reading program since SY 2003-04. Success for All is a research-based comprehensive reading approach designed to have students read at grade level. Teachers and part-time teachers take an active role in student ability-grouped SFA placements throughout the grade levels.

Along with the Kahuku High School Complex, LES implements the Every Day Math program across all grades. Multiple mathematical algorithms are explored, and manipulatives are used in teaching math standards. Weekly assessments identify student needs, and targets and measures student success.

Through a partnership between the Department of Health and the University of Hawai`i at Manoa, LES implements the Health Smart nutrition and health curriculum. As a Model School for physical education, teachers implement the Spark and Take 10 physical education curriculum across all grades.

La`ie Elementary School students participate and have performed well in academic and physical competitions which include: Science Fair, History Day, First Lego League Robotics, Solar Sprint Car, MathBowl, and the Windward District Physical Fitness Meet.

The La`ie School Community Council (LSCC) is responsible for shared-decision making among all stakeholders to improve student achievement (including review and approval of the Academic and Financial Plan). The LSCC is updated monthly on school progress by the principal, quarterly reports, and the different participating role groups.

The Department of Education’s General Learner Outcomes are emphasized, and student achievement and accolades are recognized in monthly Super Citizen and Recognition Assemblies.

La`ie Elementary School has remarkable community and parental support as evidenced by the Parent Teacher Community Organization, school wide fundraising activities, campus improvements and beautification projects, volunteers in the classroom and chaperones for excursions, and assistance with school wide performances. La`ie Elementary School mirrors the community’s emphasis on high moral and ethical standards, the protectiveness and support of family, perseverance, and pursuit of higher education.
