黃靜伶

<My Baby and I in 2009>

My name is Chingling Huang. I’ve taught English in Municipal Kaohsiung Industrial High School for 21 years. I feel lucky all the time because I have a good job in sunny Kaohsiung, a one-hour distance from my hometown. In my school years, I didn’t love my given name Chinging (靜伶) because a bunch of girls in Taiwan have the same or similar name, and my school teachers seldom remembered me. Being a teacher, I find myself more talkative than before. My colleagues always make fun of me by saying, “Your name means ‘quiet and clever’ in Chinese. Perhaps, you lack these traits and your parents want you to have them some day.” But over time I love it more and more. “Chingling” sounds like “genius” and “genie.” What an excellent name for me!

At my leisure, I love watching Japanese channels about the scenery, hot topics, dainty foods, and TV sequels. Gossiping with a cup of afternoon tea is also my favorite recreation even though sometimes I feel regretful for the time I waste. I dislike going window shopping, which will tire me within five minutes, and reading novels, whose tiny words without any visual enjoyment, torture me a lot. I extremely love a plain life since a life without ups and downs is a blessing for me.
