The Course

In chemical engineering and related fields, a unit operation is a basic step in a process. Unit operations involve bringing a physical change such as separation, absorption, distillation, filtration etc. A process may have many unit operations to obtain the desired product.
This course which is the the first part of of Unit Operation will provide the students information about mass transfer (diffusion) in gas, liquid, and solid phase with and without chemical reaction and also it will consider the geometry variation. Diffusion is an important phenomenon that occur in every unit operation equipment.

Upon completing the diffusion the topics absorption and desorption will be covered. These two subjects are important for gas-gas phase separation.
Distillation which is a liquid-liquid separation method based on the boiling point difference will be covered for the cases of batch and continuous operation, for binary and multicomponent mixture.
Also Non ideal distillation will be studied which resembles the actual operation.
Finally Filtration and Sedimentation will be studied, both of them is to separate solid from liquid mixtures and the design of the their equipment will be covered.
