The Course

English Renaissance is one of the major periods in the history of English Literature, and drama specifically. The importance of this period stems from the fact that in this period drama witnessed its heyday. Different playwrights with a heap of works were produced in the age. After lingering for a long time on one-sided content, that is religion, drama in this age witnessed a variety of subject-matters and styles. Moreover, the most important playwrights of English Literature lived in this period, namely, Shakespeare, Marlowe, Jonson, Webster... etc. Thus, it is important for any student who studies at the departments of English language and literature to study a course in Renaissance drama, to know the origin of drama, along with the major writers of the period. Two major playwrights were selected as exemplars of the periods: Shakespeare and John Webster, and each a play: Othello and The Duchess of Malfi, respectively.
