The book used  in this course is Select Readings 2nd Edition Intermediate by Linda Lee & Erik Gunderson  (2011), Oxford University Press . This will be supplemented by other material  and exercises chosen by the instructor (or students).

The book is intended  for students of English language and the readings  contain a wide range of genres, including newspaper and magazine articles, personal essays, textbook chapters, book excerpts,  and online discussions chosen and approved by experienced teachers.

The students' book contains 14 chapters. Each chapter contains a reading  passage followed by before and after reading activities to practice the different reading skills and strategies. Each chapter will need about two weeks (6 lectures) to complete.  Given that the academic year contains about 30 weeks, the 14 chapters can be covered throughout the academic year. However, taking the holidays and exam periods into consideration, the number of chapters covered will be less.

In order to achieve a smooth transition between the pre-advanced and the advanced levels, the texts are divided into levels starting with the easier and proceeding to the more advanced ones.
