The Course

Provides students with the background knowledge needed to perform and interpret laboratory techniques commonly used in medical practice. Topics include: Homeostatic relationships, cytology, histology, Parasitology and clinical physiology of major body systems. Includes a discussion of common disorders affecting major body systems and the techniques used for diagnosis.

Course Objectives: 
1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the circulatory, urinary, and other
body systems necessary to perform assigned specimen collection
2. Follow standard operating procedures to collect specimens.
3. Prepare/reconstitute reagents, standards and controls according to
standard operating procedure.
4. Perform appropriate tests at the clinical assistant level, according to
standard operating procedures.
5. Follow established quality control protocols to include maintenance
and calibration of equipment.
6. Identify and report potential pre-analytical errors that may occur
during specimen collection, labeling, transporting and processing.
