Welcome to the Knox FIJI website!
The Gamma Deuteron chapter of Phi Gamma Delta at Knox College invites you to explore our activities and the 150-year history.

On April 5, 1867, the Gamma Deuteron chapter of Phi Gamma Delta was founded by a small group of young men at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois on the values of friendship, knowledge, morality, service, and excellence. Since then, 1,687 Knox men have been initiated as members of Gamma Deuteron and very many, if not most, have distinguished themselves in their lives after college.

To commemorate Gamma Deuteron’s 150th anniversary, we created this website to provide information about our 150th-anniversary activities, news about undergraduate and graduate members (“FIJIs” as they are known throughout the world) and serve as an online repository for photos, newsletters and archived materials from our past.

On April 7 and April 8, 2017, more than 150 Knox Fiji graduates, undergraduates, pledge class members and guests gathered to celebrate the chapter’s 150th Anniversary (above). Gamma Deuteron became only the twelfth chapter of Phi Gamma Delta to reach the 150-year milestone.

The Gamma Deuteron chapter house at 218 S. Cedar St. (below), built in 1920-21, is the oldest fraternity house in Illinois, standing for 97 years and counting.

Today, Gamma Deuteron’s 28 undergraduate brothers come to Knox from across the globe and represent a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, races, and nationalities, including three countries and seven U.S. states.

Lincoln Film directed by Graduate Brother Eric Newnham

We are proud to announce that graduate brother Eric Newnham has been at Knox and has been working on a project that will be Pro-Lincoln, Pro-Knox, Pro-Illinois, and Pro-Galesburg patriotic film. This extremely historically accurate piece that gives us a chance to preserve and promote interest in our history.

Eric has been working with Professor Doug Wilson, Historian Owen Muelder, Professor Fred Hord, and Knox President Teresa Amott to create this story worth telling. This film is written and directed by a GD Fiji and is a great opportunity to show what Fiji's do at Knox College before and after graduation. This script focuses on our story at Knox, but the bigger story line is about Abraham Lincoln, the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates, and what is happening in the United States in 1858.
