Utilizing the KML/Next Generation Science Standards (K-8)

“Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life . . . Yet too few U.S. workers have strong backgrounds in these fields, and many people lack even fundamental knowledge of them.”  A Framework for K-12 Science Education, Committee on Conceptual Framework for the New K-12 Science Education Standards - National Research Council

The KML K-12 Science Standard were completed in May of 2016 based on the Next Generation Science Standards. Attendees of this session will learn to use the KML Science Standards as a guide to enabling their students to develop key scientific skills and understand key scientific concepts. Attendees will develop an inquiry-based lesson that they can use in their classrooms next year and be given an investigation journal template that can be used for all experiments.

Matt Moeller taught grades five to eight for four years using an inquiry approach and continues to use an inquiry approach in the Physical Science and Physics courses he teaches at KMLHS.
