REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS
Angeles National Forest Trail Management Project
Client: National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)
Year of Completion: 2018
KJ Peterson Consulting provided environmental consulting services to NFWF in support of the Angeles National Forest's Williamson Rock/Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail planning project. Kathy Peterson served as liaison between ANF Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and NFWF in administering a 3rd-party NEPA contract for completion of the NEPA analysis and preparation of an environmental impact statement (EIS). Specific tasks included content analysis, risk analysis, and editing/review services to complete NEPA documents.
Williamson Rock/Pacific Crest Trail Project
Client: NorthStar Technology Corp/USDA Forest Service, Angeles National Forest (ANF)
Year of Completion: 2015
KJ Peterson Consulting was hired under a NorthStar Technology Corps subcontract to support the Forest Service in conducting a NEPA analysis that would provide limited, managed recreational activities in the currently closed Williamson Rock area, while protecting the federally listed mountain yellow-legged frog. Our company collaborated with a FS interdisciplinary team and widely diverse stakeholder base to develop an innovative adaptive management proposal that would reopen the climbing rock and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail to recreationists while protecting the frog. Specific environmental planning tasks included proposed action development, public scoping and content analysis, issue identification, and alternative development.
Bouquet Canyon Highway Project
Client: NorthStar Technology Corp/USDA Forest Service, Angeles National Forest (ANF)
Year of Completion: 2015
Bouquet Canyon Road is a heavily used County commuter route through the Angeles National Forest north of Santa Clarita, California. Several high-intensity storms and wildfires deposited sediment in the adjacent Bouquet Creek, which raised the creek bottom to a higher elevation than the road in places, resulting in stream seepage and periodic road closures. Reduced stream flows caused riparian habitat loss for the State-protected unarmored threespine stickleback; downstream wells on private property were also going dry. KJ Peterson Consulting was hired under a NorthStar Technology Corps subcontract to support the USDA Forest Service in coordinating and consulting with multiple County, State, and Federal agencies to develop a project proposal that would restore and improve riparian habitat, restore adequate water flow, and protect the endangered fish. Our company's environmental planner conducted public scoping, analyzed comments, and identified potential issues for NEPA/CEQA analysis.
