Mr. Heffner, Math Lead Teacher

I am blessed to be teaching since 1973 at KHS in this great district! I am Head of the Math Dept and will be teaching Precalculus. I also taught math at Kilgore College from 1995 to 2009. I used to be a coach and my Boys Track & Field team brought the first STATE CHAMPIONSHIP to KHS. This year I am going to be a half time teacher, teaching 3 Precalculus classes and one Statistics Risk Management.

In High School, I was an undefeated individual Texas state champion in Cross Country. I also set a national high school record in track. I attended Texas A&M on a track scholarship and was the Southwest Conference Champion. I graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and math. I received my Masters degree from Stephen F. Austin in 1975.

My wife and I have been married since 1968 (celebrating 50 years of marriage in January 2018!!) We have 3 grown children and 9 grandchildren and I'm nuts about those little guys! They crack me up big time!

I love my job because I get to teach some of the most awesome young people on the planet. They will be learning so many things that are completely new to them as we cover so many topics in this fast-paced course, but they will be "all over it like a duck on a June bug."

They can expect major tests about every 8 to 10 class days and short homework assignments daily most days. As with all Honors classes, the tests count 65% and the daily work/homework counts 35% which is a good precursor to their college work. Email anytime you need to and I will get back to you ASAP.

Most students call me 'Coach Heffner' which is a throwback to my coaching days. We are going to have a great and productive year.
