Drivers wanted

posted Nov 5, 2018, 6:31 AM by kathy Freeston

Are you that special person we are looking for? Rushcliffe Voluntary Transport Scheme urgently needs new volunteer drivers in Kinoulton for its community transport service. The service helps elderly and disabled passengers get out and about keeping them active and independent. Demand is outstripping supply in Kinoulton which is why there’s an urgent need for more volunteer drivers. Passengers are getting in touch with more requests to go to the shops, doctors, dentists, social clubs, hospitals, hairdressers and to visit friends and family.

Volunteer drivers need to be friendly, like meeting people, have a clean driving licence and have some spare time. A bit of time given freely makes the world of difference to someone who would like to get out and about, but who can’t do this easily. Volunteer drivers used their own cars for which they get a mileage fee of 45p per mile travelled.

People who are retired, work part time or who have some spare time are ideal.  Drivers need to be used to dealing with a wide variety of people, reliable and have vital life skills that the community needs. Becoming a volunteer driver (from 1 day a week up to 5 days) could ease people into retirement, or give people something useful to do, while still keeping them busy and being community-minded as a volunteer.
