Wairoa College is back for seconds

Our second visit to Wairoa College and we are cooking Italian foods as well as finding out what is in those energy drinks

Kumara and Potato Gnocchi
350 g Desiree or Agria
150 g Kumara, peeled
150g Flour
1 whole free-range egg, whisked
1. Peel and chop potatoes and kumara and boil in water until soft.  Drain and mash
2. Add flour and whisked egg and mix to form a dough that is soft like the bottom of your ear. You may need to add more flour. Knead until smooth 3. On a clean bench, roll dough into small, skinny sausage shapes and then cut into 2 cm long pieces. 4. Poach gently in boiling salted water for 2 minutes, or until they rise to the surface, drain and drizzle with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.

The best thing about our visit to was that these guys are give it a go kids, not afraid to try anything as the Teens Can Cook Kitchen cooked up tastings for all to try.  There was lots of thumbs up, a couple of thumbs down and heaps and heaps of smiles as the we whisked, flipped, cooked, chopped and sliced our way through lots of different foods.

We talked about Puffery, Sugar in our Foods and Healthy Food options
Our Masterchef tastings were a real hit as we chewed and found out that our tongues have millions of taste buds, sweet at the front, tart, bitter and sour at the sides and savoury in the middle.  Lots of respect, lots of mana, lots of good manners on the Teens Can Cook Kitchen….well done to all
