Course Description

Students will learn from textbook & hands-on Horticulture, Landscaping, & Greenhouse practices to include: materials needed, preparation, caring for finished products, equipment & maintenance. Basic small engine.

About Mr. Mitchell

I have been teaching Agricultural Horticulture for seventeen years.

I ran my own lawn maintenance business before coming to teach here at King George High.

Agriculture Class Rules

  1. SAFETY FIRST.  IF YOU THINK YOUR TASK CANNOT BE DONE IN A SAFE MANNER, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO IT.
  2. STOP & TAKE TIME THINK YOUR WORK THOUGH BEFORE STARTING A JOB.  
  3. NEVER USE OR OPERATE ANY EQUIPMENT OR HAND TOOLS WITHOUT THE INSTUCTORS PERMISSION.  
  4. STUDENTS SHALL BE KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THE USE & SAFETY OF EQUIPMENT BEFORE PERMISSIONWILL BE GIVEN TO OPERATE.
  5. NO MISUSE OF EQUIPMENT, HAND TOOLS, MATERIALS, OR SCHOOL PROPERTY WILL BE ALLOWED.
  6. ALL SCHOOL POLICIES ARE IN EFFECT WHILE IN THIS CLASS.
  7. STUDENTS ARE TO BE IN THEIR ASSIGNED AREA, UNLESS PERMISSION TO BE ELSEWHERE AS BEEN GIVEN BY THE INSTRUCTOR.
  8. RESPECT FOR OTHER STUDENTS, TEACHER, & ANY GUESTS WILL BE EXPECTED AT ALL TIMES.
  9. NO HORSEPLAY, THROWING OBJECTS, RUNNING/KICKING WILL BE ALLOWED IN CLASS.
  10. APPROPRIATE ATTIRE MUST BE WORN WHILE USING EQUIPMENT & TOOLS.  IF THE INSTRUCTOR DETERMINES THAT THE ATTIRE IS UNSAFE, THE STUDENT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE EQUIPMENT. 
  11. NO BANDANA’S, CHAINS/WALLET CHAINS ARE ALLOWED IN CLASS. 
  12. STUDENTS WILL WEAR SCHOOL APPROPRIATE ATTIRE DURING CLASS. 
  13. WORK AREA & EQUIPMENT WILL BE CLEANED & STORED PROPERLY AT THE END OF EACH BLOCK.
  14. SAFETY GLASSES & EAR PROTECTION WILL BE WORN WHILE WORKING WITH ANY MACHINERY OR HAND TOOLS.
  15. STUDENTS WILL BRING THEIR OWN PEN/PENCIL & PAPER TO CLASS EVERYDAY.
  16. NO CELLPHONES, IPODS, MP3 PLAYERS, PSP’S, CD PLAYERS ARE ALLOWED IN CLASS.
  17. NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN CLASS.
  18. NO CHEATING. DO YOUR OWN WORK.
