Information for All KG CGS Social Studies Classes

Welcome!

For any and all information regarding Mrs. McGuinness's CGS AP European History (9th Grade), AP US Government and Politics (10th Grade), 10th Grade Culminating, AP US History (11th Grade), and AP Human Geography (12th Grade) classes, please check the CGS BlackBoard website.  All syllabi, assignment calendars, course documents, etc. are only accessible through my BlackBoard course pages.  Please bear in mind that the calendar is fluid and will change as we work as a team of six sites across the region.
For parents accessing my BlackBoard classes, directions on how to access CGS technology are located in the attachment at the bottom of this page in the "Parent Technology Access" document.

For students accessing my BlackBoard classes, please email me directly if you have lost your password or are having difficulty logging in after school hours or talk to me first thing the next school day!  Checking BlackBoard and e-mail daily is essential to all CGS classes, so I consider not being able to access them an emergency that cannot wait a few days to be addressed.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at emcguinness@cgs.k12.va.us or emcguinness@kgcs.k12.va.us

  • Come to class prepared with all materials. You will not be provided with a hall pass to retrieve your belongings.
  • Please pay attention to your monthly calendar as to what room you have class in, it will change day to day.
  • Be respectful to all members of our community of learners—this includes all classmates and teachers.
Syllabi:
Grading/Homework Policies:
  • Student grades will be based upon their performance in a variety of categories:
  • Tests or Major Projects—50+ points (1 or 2 each 6 weeks)
  • Daily Quizzes—10 to 20 points
  • AP Writing Assignments—10 to 40 points
  • Other Assignments — 10-50 points
The course will adhere to the King George County grading scale.
Please note that all Advanced Placement classes are weighted and keep this in mind as you review grades from these courses.

NOTE: All assignments must be submitted properly. For example, if the assignment is listed due on Black-Board, students must submit the assignment through BlackBoard. Any assignments that are not assigned through BlackBoard, must be personally received by Mrs. McGuinness.

Make-up Work Policy
Students unable to complete an assignment or test due to an excused absence will have an opportunity to make up the work and should do so as expeditiously as possible. It is solely the student’s responsibility to obtain any missed handouts and notes and to arrange to make up tests.  As per King George Schools policy, a student will receive 3 days for each excused absence to make up work. After this time, if you choose to not make up the assignment, you earn a zero. If you are absent before a test but arrive to school on the day of the test, you will be responsible for taking the test or quiz on that day as all tests and quizzes are announced well in advance on the BlackBoard calendar.
Late Work Policy
All assignments are expected at the beginning of class on the day that they are due or at the time noted on the BlackBoard assignment. A reduction in the grade will be taken for each day an assignment is late for no more than 5 days late. No assignments will be accepted from a unit after the unit is finished. If there are special circumstances that prevent a student from completing an assignment on time, he or she must see Mrs. McGuin-ness as soon as possible before the due date for an extension.
